Default Window Tints - Cool or Crass ?

To protect Wozmaz's original qestion, let's talk tints here.

Personally, I think theyt can look good on some cars (depending on the paintwork colour) but I have concerns about anything that reduces the light level to the driver (through any window) - especially at this time of the year.

when I bought my "2", I also tested the P****t 1007 - lots of things to like about it (especially the fact that they can't give them away so the prices are ridiculously low). But it does have a tint on the rear screen as standard. Every time I looked in the mirror I felt like I wanted to take my sunglasses off - but I wasn't wearing any.

I've driven 2 vehicles with rear tinting in the past, and all I can offer is that you do get used to it. It becomes less of an issue over time, to the point where you rarely notice it, even at night.

Never had a problem on my 5 and neither has the wife.

Looks cool and keeps the children from getting too much sun in the summer.

Would defo look for it on the next car.

Cheers

I've no problem with vision in our 5 Sport but I have to say that I think it looks awful. I like the privacy for the kids but we still use shades in the summer as I'm not convinced that it does much to block the sun out.
The other thing is that the back of a 5 can get very dark, what with the black/grey seats, shallow windows and tints.

I am a huge fan of the window tint. I don't think I have owned a car that I didn't add window tint to at some point. I did grow up in Florida were and just spent my last 4 years in New Mexico where 100 degrees F wasn't uncommon though. You can instantly feel the difference after getting into you car with newly tinted windows from those without. I owned a SAAB in New Mexico that didn't have any tint, and bits and pieces of the interior actually started to melt. Mostly dash plastics and little plastic pieces in the rear. Had the same thing happen to an instument panel on my motorcycle.

The visibility isn't too bad at night as long as you don't go crazy and completely black out the windows. Now that I'm in the UK where temperatures are mild and the winters are dark, I can see not wanting window tint.

I haven't taken any good pics of my 5 with tint yet.

Terry, you and your avatar look awfully familar to me.Are you on other Mazda forum sites too?
I have 25F/5%R on mine and though I never would've chosen such dark tint on the rear myself have gotten somewhat used to it.It is a trade-off though. Had I to do it again, no more 5% for me. Maybe 20-25% all around. Still legal in Texas.

Make sure you use HEAT SHIELDING window film.
It's useless to get just the darkening tint- they don'treduce heat.
You need HEAT SHIELDING.
It cuts the temperature down considerably.
I put in the SOLAR GARD Titanium.
