Default Squeaking sound when i turn the steering wheel

When i turn the steering wheel from center to left, it makes a squeaking sound. Any clues on what it could be. It is really annoying in parking lots and when i have to turn the steering wheel left. Any ideas?

I once rented a brand new Ford truck from U-Haul that did that. Since it was a rental and I didn't have time to take it back to have it looked at, I simply lubricated the steering column. Of course the horn didn't work after that either, but it didn't squeak!!

Default squeaking vs groaning

My 02's steering just started to groan when it's cold, mostly when turning left. The steering wheel doesn't pull, but I'm concerned about that sound. It isn't a squeaking, so perhaps the problem is something else. It is a high mileage vehicle, and this may be a Ford part (I find Ford's generally noisy).
The power steering fluid is not low. I'll be taking it for an oil change soon, and the shop is famous for checking everything and selling me all sorts of services, so maybe they'll find something that's repairable.
However, if anyone has anything to offer, please do (sorry if I'm hijacking this thread - not intentional - squeak/groan....they are both noises :-).

Cheers, Mark

Default Steering groans when cold

I just went to the dealer yesterday for the same exact problem on my 01 V6 2WD. They said that my power steering pump was going bad and quoted a $628 bill including pwr steering flush.

That seems a bit pricey. With the P/S pump being changed, you'd figure they would throw in the flush for free. If I were you, I would go to another dealer or an independent shop and get qouotes form them. You may want to consider checking with a Ford dealer to see if they would do the job.

Default Power Steering Groans

Thanks 04Tribute, I am going to an independent tech to have it replaced. I thought it was rather expensive too!

I everyone, I sure do need your help for this one. It's about the code P0351, I put the coil #1 on #4 change all six spakplugs, went to the garage and have the injectors clean up, and the f?%$# code still on, do I have to change the injector? is there anyting I can do before I go to the dealer? And can you tell me where the ECM is, I'm thinking of changing it.
Thank's guys.

Default Update

Groaning sound on my LX was due to low PS fluid - simple fix!

Cheers, Mark
