Default power steering help

i have a 2001 tribute 2wd 3.0,I replaced power steering pump and it is whining louder than before it was replaced and the fluid in reservoir is bubbling looks like foaming. Is the steering rack bad?

Probably not, may still have air trapped in the pump. Turn the steering wheel from stop to stop a few times. You don't need to crank on it once it hits it's max turn, just as long as you turn the wheel all the way until it stops. If you have a parking lot nearby where you can perform a figure 8 maneuver, that would be ideal. If the problem persists, it may be a faulty pump. I've seen one or two, right out of the box, that never did quiet down.

my girlfriend drove it to work today, when she got home there was smoke coming from behind engine. the cv joint was wet, I checked the level in reservoir while it was running and the fluid was whirl pooling and when engine wasn't running the fluid was foamy and below the add mark. Its still whining and moaning bad. Bad rack? and pump?

Sounds like a bad pump, thats much more likely than your rack going bad just as you replace the pump...

I'd try a replacement pump also at this point.

also make sure the copper washers were replaced on the high pressure line at the rack, i did mine a week ago and had to re-tighten the banjo bolt that fits through the high pressure hose to rack
