Default Catalytic Converters

I am in the process of having the catalytic converters replaced for the second time on my 2002 Tribute V6. Anyone else having issues with converters or loss of power. I was told it could possibly been from towing a trailer long distances. Doesn't seem right for a vehicle with a towing package not being able to tow???

What was your car doing and who is recommending you change out the CATS? I think someone is taking you for a ride, especially if you've already replaced them once.

FYI...You car will run just fine even without catalytic convertors in place, it may just emit a little more exhaust emissions.

My tribute would not even hold 50 mph, had erratic idle, and the emission light was flashing. The code pulled was that the Bank 1 CAT had failed. Testing before and after the CATS also indicated that they were plugged.

Due to removing the Catalytic Converters being illegal, who do you know that will do it? I haven't found anyone who will even have that conversation.

Had mine replaced and was 100% difference in power and fuel economy. I spoke with the dealer while wating for service and he said they had a new unit show up with a plugged convertor once. It has been a problem on several occasions but don't know why. I'm happy again. (warranty covered)

8 year or 80,000 miles whichever comes first for emissions warranty which covers the catalytic converters and engine computer.

That's federally mandated, right?

1. Remove and throw away useless plastic engine shield. Engine will run cooler
2. Replace all Mazda OEM Ignition Coils with good quality ones. Recommend Napa Echlin
3. Replace all spark plugs

Never have a catalytic converter problem again.
