2001 Mazda Tribute coughing
Hi we have another problem with our Tribute. It has just been serviced and was going really well before the service. However afterward it was hard to start and idled very roughly and coughed during driving. After investigating I found out that the mechanic had hosed some oil off part of the engine (not on the side where the electrics are) and we are wondering if water has gotten in somewhere but we cant find it. As time has gone on the car is improving kinda like the water is drying out. I have also noticed that when we drive in really heavy rain the same thing happens. Has anyone else had this problem.
Thanks

Mick...is the truck showing a "check engine" light when this happens....The problem is very likely to be associated with 1 or more of the "coil on plugs" Just my 2 cents worth.....let us know what you find.
There are some very sharp folks here and we will try to help you solve your problem...

Hi! Welcome to the forums!! If you could please put your cars info into your signature (year, model, engine, trans etc) it would help us all out
If your mechanic hosed your engine a bit it could have got the coilpacks wet and they are sending the spark on the easiest path to ground through the water and not the spark plug, you can either just let it get to normal temp and let it evaporate or you can attempt to remove the coil pack(s) and dry them out and put some dielectric grease inside. Ditto to checking for codes, that will point you to the culprit pack if it is throwing a code.
