Default New to the forum, looking to purchase an '01 MP3

Hey all!

Like I said, I'm looking at purchasing a new to me (obviously, haha.) '01 MP3. That being said, it's cheap. Way cheap. For a reason. The current owner is claiming that it won't rev above 2k, and that it sputters on the throttle. Personal thoughts? Catalytic converter. I did some searching around the forum before I joined up, in hopes of finding something and not having to bother you guys. However, I'm just hoping someone might have some advice! I don't have much more information than that at the moment, unfortunately.

It's a 2001 Protege MP3, PMY in color, with a 5MT. From my understanding this trim only came with the 2.0.

Thanks ahead of time, if you're game!

It could be worn spark plugs, dying coils, sad HT leads, massive air leak, blown head gasket, low fuel pressure &/or flow, blocked cat, ignition timing, etc etc.
