Default Dealer wants to replace Timing Cover along with Timing Belt

2003 Protege 2.0 LX sedan
It has 160,000 Kms ie 100,000 Miles. Belt or water pump was never replaced

Dealer wants to replace Timing Cover along with Timing Belt.

Reason He says that IT GETS OILY..!

It is not one but all the ones 3-4 of them we called included Timing cover in the quote.

Haven't heard of that. It sounds weird to me.

One was just quoting timing belt only said he will replace other parts only if needed after inspection.

Second said timing belt and tensioner spring only.

Third said only belt and water pump need to be done.

Fourth said belt tensioner and spring. Waterpump only if its leaking.

but all included timing cover.

I want belt, idler, tensioner, spring & waterpump all replaced. Which I think is right thing to do.

Don't walk but run from this dealer.

Replacing a timing belt and timing belt cover will NOT solve an oily problem. Where is the oil seen?

Personally I would change the belt, tensioner and water pump. Reason for that is because your already there and have already completed 90% of the work needed to replace them, also by the time you need a new belt the pump could be less than a year from dying anyways, parts are cheap, engines not.

The covers get deformed\worn etc. but I would never rec. replacing one because it has oil on it. That's what a solvent tank or brake cleaner are for!

Ive seen the rubber o-ring/seal on the covers expand from oil leaking onto them, when its time to put it all togeather again its a pain in the **** to refit the rubber. Go back and ask/check for a better explanation.
