Cold weather and car starting
Hi,
We have a mazda protege 95. I've recently taken
It to the mechanic for a check up and he says
as far as he can see everything seems fine.
We would like to leave it at the airport in an
Open garage for 5 days. Temperatures will
Range from low of 9 at night to 28-30 during
day.
My question is that will it be OK if the car
is idle that long?
I usually try to run it every week day.
It's mostly just idle over the weekend.
When it's really cold it doesn't start immediately
like summer time but it also doesn't feel like excessive
cranking.
Any thoughts?

The only problem i can see that you could have is the battery. Cold weather likes to kill borderline batteries. All cars have a draw on the battery when it is not running for things like clock/radio/pcm memory. You could toss a wrench in the car to disconnect the battery when you park it. Otherwise i don't forsee you having a problem.

Wrap the battery in insulation.. It will help keep the cold off it in winter and keep the heat oof it in summer resulting in longer life and better starts.
Synthetic oil is also better for cold starts as oil flows easier making parts rotate quicker.
