2002 Protege Check Engine Light
I have a 2002 Protege with 150000 miles on it. Recently the check engine light came on and I had the mechanic scan it. He replaced the plugs since one was bad. Since then when it is damp out the check engine light will come on along with poor acceleration. At 60 - 70mph the car runs fine and after a day or so the light goes off. Is this a plug wire/coil pack problem?
Secondly, do you need a special tool to change the gas filter?
Lastly, can you buy a repair manual for this model? I have looked at the parts store without much luck.

Check with Amazon.com for the manual.
If your mechanic only replaced the plugs, then go ahead and replace the wires as well. I don't know if your model has a distributor. If so replace the rotor and the cap. I think your's doesn't. The coilpack coud be shorting out as well.
Your car is old enough to start with vacuum leaks. You could consider replacing all the vacuum lines. You can buy them off the reel for cheap.
