Default shift control solenoid

Hi all, how hard is to replace the shift control solenoid on 96 B2300, can this be considered DIY.? I am capable of repairing all my !]motorcycles, but not familiar with transmission work, I appreciate any input. also any idea if I take it to a transmission shop how much would I expect to pay?

You will likely have to remove the valvebody as the clips holding the solenoids into the valvebody are installed from the top. Not a very hard job but a bit messy.

There are a total of 6 solenoids. 4 are shift solenoids and should ohm out the same. The TCC solenoid is the most common failure. There are numerous valves/check *****/springs/etc that can bind up and set a code for a solenoid and or cause shifting problems. What code is in the PCM and what is the symptom?

thank you for your reply, the error code is P0761 indicating shift control solenoid, the symptom is; blinking od light and shifting snappy, and would not go into over drive. so this is why I was focused on the shift control solenoid. any further advice is highly appreciated

It's a pretty safe bet that it is one of the 4 identical ones. You can remove the pan and ohm all 4 and that will tell you which it is. If they ohm out the same you can apply 12 volts and ground and listen for a click. They have small screens in the ends too so there is a possibility of a clogged screen in one.

Good timing. I came on here to find out about the same problem. My 1996 B3000 auto trans is not shifting smoothly lately. It hesitates only when going into drive. It shifts normally going into the other gears. Sometimes the OD off light flashes. If I turn the engine off it will stay off for a while. The check engine light is on now. I just had the EGR valve, EGR boost sensor, and the EGR boost sensor solenoid valve replaced.
I had the codes pulled and they were
PO401 and PO756. Is this a similar problem.
Thanks Bob
