so i got my new camshaft today, cleaned it up, used plenty of assembly lube, cleaned the bearings in the head and rocker assembly and set it............on? yeah thats right. the large thin flange spot behind the front bearing that fits in to the slot.... is to thick for the slot. its a DNJ brand partnumber CAM406 camshaft for my 1987 mazda B2000 pickup. now i've done a couple overhead cam jobs and one dual overhead cam and have had the cams drop right in with no issues. now i messured the slot, the flange on both the old and new camshaft, the slot is 4.05mm wide, the flange on the old is 4.01mm thick and the new one is 4.49mm thick. now i'm wondering if any one else here has had issues with the cams not fitting? also if it helps i ordered it from rockauto.com. i'm gonna call them up tomorrow morning and see if i can either get an exchange or a refund, because i was hopeing to have my truck running with a new broken in cam by now. so again has anyone else here had fitment issues?

 

ok, so i did some thinking and the flange seems to control the end play... yet to thick to fit in the groove. is it possible to grind a little material out of thise groove to get the cam to fit?

 

I'd either exchange it, at least contact rockauto about it, or take it to a machine shop, with the spec on the old shaft to be turned down to that size.

 

rockauto did advise me against the exchange because the others they have might be the same. dunno how much a shop would charge to machine the cam tho. ugh.. trucks gonna be down lonmger .

 

I'd ask Rockauto for a credit on the amount the machine shop will charge, I also agree with thier logic. That will probably be cheap for a shop to do.
