Default motor swap 2600

I'm trying to put a 2.6L out of a 2wd auto into my newly acquired 4x4 5spd. Anyone know what has to be swapped between the two motors? Can I just install a pilot bearing in the crankshaft in the auto motor or are they different crankshafts?

the crankshafts should be the same if they are both 2.6's i'm not sure if the heavyer fly wheel will make any difference, some body will come along thats done this swap before

I'm not sure what you need to swap, but I just got a rebanufactured engine for my 87 B2600 4x4 & when it was ordered they said to measure the hole center, (hole to hole) of the2 bottom holes on the block that attach it to the bellhousing, because there are 2 sizes, 13.25inches & I think they said 12.5inches!

Hi rodmanmazda. I also took a 2x4 2.6L Auto and dropped it in my '92 4x4 manual. When doing so, I found out that the Throttle Body and Butterfly Valves were different sizes. The Fuel injectors are also different. This isn't neccesary to change because it should still run, but producing less power. Mine is lifted and on 31" tires so I went with the more powerful 4x4 set-up, but it does lower the fuel economy a bit. Also some of the vaccum hoses to the intake manifold were different, but easy to add/fix. The thermostat temp wire connector was different which is also easy, but could have just been the difference in years. ('90 engine into a '92) I installed a new pilot bearing and had no problems when mounting to the 4x4 tranny. I would advise that you clean the tranny shaft end which goes into the pilot bearing cause it's a tight fit. And if the 2x4 and 4x4 flywheels are different, I would go with the 4x4 cause its probably stronger. As for the crankshafts,I've talked to mechanics, friends, and auto stores, and they all say that it ismost likely the same.

The ECU and injectors are different on an auto trans truck. Injectors are higher flow so you need the ECU from the truck you pulled the engine out of or swap the injectors out to match.

Can't say for sure on foreign motors, but on domestic the automatic uses a flex plate, the manual a flywheel. The two will not interchange functionally, however you should be able to use the longer bolts from the manual trans flywheel to bolt the flywheel to the automatic engine without any problems. The crankshaft will most likely have a larger bore on the automatic than the manual, which again the pilot bearing or bushing will fit into either crankshaft. If you can't get the bushing out, pack it full of grease and use a clutch alignment tool to pressurize the grease; that should pop it right out. Good luck.

You'll need to swap oil pans and oil pickup tubes, and be prepared to fight the top inside oil tube bolt awhile, It's very hard to reach. I ended up cutting the end off a 10mm wrench and welding it back on at about a80 degree angle.
