Default head reworked

I bought a 89 b2200 that overheated. I took head off and took to a machine shop, and had them resurface it and check it and rebuild it. I put it on and now I get alot of smoke coming out the tail pipe. It seems like an oil smell, sometimes it looks light blue or white, and if I rev it it blackens and goes back to the other. Sometimes it stops and it runs great no matter if smoking or not. I replaced the water pump, and the oil. I see no water in the oil, and no oil in the water. the water level has been low twice, but I really did not work out any air in system. this truck runs strong other than the smoke. can anyone please give me a simple fix. I hope it isn't something major.
Thanks

Bad head gasket? Did you follow the proper torque sequence for tightening the head down? That can lead to a poor seal.

I followed the directions in the haynes manual. I first tighted down to 20 ft lbs then to 30, then to 40, 50,then 63. then I ran the engine and retighted them. there was about a month between tightening and starting the engine, due to lack of time. Is there anything else it could be that is simple? Is there a way to test it to find out what it could be without taking it all apart? and is there a problem that is common with these engines?

You could do a cylinder to cylinder compression test to see which cylinder isn't sealing up. the gauge screws into the spark plug hole and you crank the starter to get a reading (remove your coil wire so it doesn't fire up, and if you can shut off your fuel flow, that's even better to avoid flooding it.)

Remember your smoke colors.... blueis oil, white is coolant, black is excess fuel.

I was told that these head bolts are not the stretching kind, and using the old ones are ok. The machine shop that rebuilt the head told me that. They are very good.
I will try doing a compression check today.

Does the intake manifold have coolant going through it? and if it does than instead of head gasket, my problem could be that either it warped or cracked when it overheated. So does anyone know if coolant runs through intake. I should know from replacing the head, but so much time has gone by I can't remember.
