86 b2000
I have an 86 b2000 that seems to run hot when driven down the road. It has plenty of coolant, new thermostat, and the hoses look to be in good shape. Can leave it running idle for thirty minutes or so and not run hot but when I take it down the road that is when it runs hot. Also the truck keeps flooding out. had to unplug the electric choke. Is that the only thing to replace or willI have to replace other parts when I replace this. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

RE: 86 b2000
If it does not overheat at idle it is most likely a restriction in the radiator or a bypass hose restriction. That old of a truck it could be a lot of things. If the coolant looks rusty the impellor on the waterpump could be coming apart and not flowing well, but it sounds like a classic radiator restriction.
As for flooding out it sounds like it needs a carb overhaul. Check the float,air/fuel solonoid/choke pulloff etc when you do it. You could try disconnecting the air/fuel solonoid in the top of the carb. It is a 2 wire connector and goes directly into the top. Make sure you have a good coil on it. That one would be over 20 years old if original and way past time to replace it.
