Default 1986 B2000 -New Timing belt, now a problem!

I just replaced the timing belt on the old B2000.
She ran beautifully before the timing belt change, just following regular maintenance recommendations.

I followed the instructions a friend printed out from ALLDATA-Online. Everything went smoothly, except it would not fire up after I was done. It backfired through the carb a few times and smelled of fuel coming out the exhaust.

During the service, I removed the distributor, so I though I had reinstalled it wrong. So I check the distributor about 10 times and it was fine, My timing light showed I was firing exactly when it should (BTDC of compression stroke). I pulled apart the front of the engine for a second time and checked cam timing and ignition timing and still wont fire.
There is a ton of fuel in the carb throats, and the spark plugs smelled of a lot of fuel.
I checked the spark at the plugs, and sure enough I am getting spark at the end of the plug wires...but it is not starting!
It doesnt even sound like it is trying to start.

What the heck am I missing!??!?!?
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the response!
I set the engine at TDC with the exhaust valve closed (i can see it through the oil cap opening), I install the distributor with the marks lined up, and the rotor points directly at the #1 spark plug wire.
The firing order is correct, the spark is making it to the end of the plug wire, but it wont start....wont even try to start.
Is there some trick I am not picking up on?

if the exhaust valve is just closeing, your 180 off. pull the distributor out then turn the crankshaft over 180 deg. align the timeing marks at TDC. then put your distributor back in with the rotor pointing to #1 sparkplug wire. hope this helps.
