'93 MX3 V6 lurches and stalls in 1st gear
Aloha from the east end of Maui!
I have a 1993 Mazda MX3, V 6, that has suddenly, as of 2 days ago, started lurching and stalling horrifically in 1st and 2nd gears. It does this whether I apply gas or not. I need an idea of what I should be looking at to resolve this. The clutch was put in just over a year ago, but it caused the technicians some problems, and I am afraid I am going to blow the clutch again, trying to get it to the nearest garage. If it is something I can handle with reasonable facility, I would prefer to take a crack at it myself.
Thanks,
Ray

Aloha to you raysoden. I would look at checking the intake air boot between the air cleaner and engine first off. Look for a tear in the accordian boot area. This tear can be closed off at idle but can be opened up and allow unmetered air into your engine when giving some throttle and engine torque rotates the engine a bit.

Duct tape makes a great temporary repair to cover the torn area. Replacement boot is still available from local dealer for $68.30. OE part #K801-13-220D. Delivered to your door for a little less from www.onlinemazdaparts.com for a bit less at $54.64.
