Default starting prob mazda mpv

hi
I have a 2003 mazda mpv diesel
looking for advice on my starting problem
I some times go to start it and it turns very slowly then leave it for a while and it then cranks ok and the engine starts
I can run all day when started but when I stop and then go to start again it cranks slowly again leave it for a while and it starts ok again.
today when I got in the car it would not crank I could hear the starter clicking in after a few turns of the key it started to crank but very slowly
hence the car would not start. I had a check on the battery a while ago and the mechanic said it is fine
any ideas would be appreciated
regards
malcolm

Classic starter symptoms. Check all connections and replace the starter.

Since it is a diesel engine it has massive compression compared to a gasoline engine. That means the starter works really hard. Be careful of your replacement choice. A cheap starter won't last long.

Most part stores will test the battery and starter draw.
