cutting out
i have a 89 MPV, it has 212k on the clock
it was sitting for a year before i got it, so i started to do a tune-up
gave it new wires and plugs
new front brakes
fuel and oil system flushed out
new belts
new fuel filter
has a bit of oil that leaks onto top of the valve cover and sits there,
it drove good, passed inspection,
then my alternator blew up by overcharging...it was putting out 17.5 volts.
also blew out my headlights
put in a new alternator and battery and headlights.
drove good for a about 2 weeks then while driving it cut out while doing about 40 MPH...assumed it was the fuel pump
installed new fuel pump
still no start
got the van towed to a safe spot to work on it, came back a week later to check things out
pulled the plugs, they had small amount of burn from oil, but still good.
checked the EGI relay it wasn't reading the coil thru the tabs. dissembled the relay and checked again, the coil read 80.4 ohms, but i could not read thru what looks like a resistor between a leg of the coil and a tab.
assumed the relay was shot, slaved in defrost relay after checking and verifying 75.5 ohms on the coil.
van started right up...drove it around the block 3 times to verify..no problems
went to take the van out and 5 minutes into the trip it dies again...no start...tried swapping relays again with no luck.
whats the next thing i should look at?
fuel system is good, pump is working, and fuel going in and out of filter

this is utterly pathetic, of all the people on here everyone reads the thread and no one has a clue as what to do? does anyone on here work on the van? every mazda forum i've joined is the same way...

cutting out
I have a 2002 MPV and it cuts out when I punch the gas. I took it to the dealer and it took them a couple of days to find out what was causing it.
The culprit was the idle valve in the carburator. I think it controls the air flow
in the carburator. Replaced that and the hoses and the PCV and everything is great. Hope this helps.
The mechanic had consult with other dealership a to could be causing this grief.
Good luck on this...
