Default 2001 Mazda MPV Rear AC Issue

Hi,

We bought a 2001 Mazda MPV van on Friday. We didn't realize at the time, that it had rear AC.

The front is blowing out cold air just fine, but when you hit the switch for the rear, it turns out and blows out hard, but it is nothing but warm/hot air. Nothing cold. When it is on, the panel where the rear controls is located, also gets really hot.

Also when the rear is turned on, the front seems like the coolness kind of goes down a tad, like it weakens it or something.

After doing a little research, we have come up with 2 possibilities.

1. The rear blend door needs replacing...not sure where it is located or how to get to it though.

2. It needs a freon charge, since the front coolness kind of weakens when the rear is turned on.

Any thoughts?
