98 2.5 CEL codes with projected fixes, please advise...
For all the experts in here. I recently bought my first Millenia. 98 with the regular 2.5 V6 motor. Here are the current engine codes it has. After checking some of the posts, this is what I have to do. Please advise if I am going the right direction before I start buying and replacing parts. Any information would be much appreciated. Thank you.
P0154 - Oxygen Sensor - No activity detected (Upstream of Catalyst / Front Bank) Change Front 02 Sensor
P0173 - Fuel Trim Malfunction (Front Bank)
Check for Vacuum Leaks
P0300 - Combustion Misfire Detected - Random (Multiple Cylinders)
Check Spark Plugs
P0505 - Idle-Air Control (IAC) Circuit Malfunction
Change AIC Valve
P1170 - Oxygen Sensor - Inversion Not Detected (Upstream of Catalyst / Rear Bank)
Change Front 02 Sensor
P1173 - Oxygen Sensor - Inversion Not Detected (Upstream of Catalyst / Rront Bank)
Change Front 02 Sensor – Same as P0154

Before buying anything, go to oldeng post 04-13-2009, 10:06 PM. add to that list
Check air filter. Remove plugs, check condition [ grey-white= lean mixture: tan= good
black/ sooted = rich mixture and or oil in cylinder: Wet= no spark, raw fuel, oil, or coolant ingress into cylinder].
As a general guide, start from the air inlet to the engine and work systematically through it, because all or almost all of your codes can be secondary ones attributable to an air/fuel balance seriously off optimum.
