'95 Loose volume control knob?

Hi all- I just registered and i had a couple quick questions for you. 1. The volume **** on my radio (bose cassette w/ cd changer in trunk) is completely loose. Or i should say it was. I opened up the radio and tightened the switch, and now i get NO volume. Power still works. Any ideas? Second, can i replace the "bose" labeled radio with a non-bose labeled radio if it's the same year? Or are the internals completely different? Thanks a lot guys.

dunno about the volume ****, but you cannot switch btwn bose and non. different impedance, plus the bose system has separate amps for each speaker. NOT a plug n play.
