Default 2001 Milly S - ABS Brake TCS TCS Off lights on no speedo/odo

Car runs fine, not in limp mode, trans seems ok, good grounds, good fuses, new battery. Car has correct 52k miles.

Codes are: P0500, P1720, P1524, P1455

No ABS specific codes.

I replaced the vehicle speed sensor with no change, checked related wiring and no chafes, broken wires/bad connections.

The 0500 & 1720 point to VSS circuit malfunction - what else comprises this circuit?

Is there also an output speed sensor on this model year? If so where is it?

I will deal with the 1524 when I get this other issue resolved.

What else could be causing this? Ideas??

Thanks!

Joe

Ken inn,

Rechecked and cleaned all grounds. I also added another 4g ground wire from ground connector mentioned above to chassis. Unfortunately none of the ground work helped.

I hear you on the FSM - good idea and will look into that.

Any other ideas on what to try next?

Thanks!!

Joe

Swapped in a used ABS/trans control unit (under drivers side dash) with no effect on the issues. At a complete loss and this is driving me crazy and beating up my wallet.

Did I get a bad VSS sensor? It was purchased new from Rockauto...
PCM next?
Would the module on ABS pump cause this?
Anything in the transmission itself?

TIA

Joe

Default Fixed ABS

Fixed. It turned out to be the ABS controller. I was able to swap it without pulling the pump so it saved me a lot of work not having to bleed the entire system.

In the 2001/02 cars the wheel sensors feed signal to the ABS controller which in turn feeds signal to the dash. This is compared against the VSS signal in the PCM which feeds trans controller. There is no output speed sensor on this generation. Don't know why the ABS scan didnt pick up the controller issue or if it did the dealer never mentioned it.

Now on to the 1524...I have replaced all of the hoses on the rear bank of solenoids and am moving on to the top of the motor. Need to do valve cover gaskets and plugs so a crapload of work still in front of me. Fun times.
