Default Check Engine Light 97 Miata

I am a new member and also a new owner of a 97 Miata. The car runs great with no issues that I can see. My question is, yesterday I filled it with fuel and after noticed a check engine light. The fuel gauge was very, very slow to respond to full level when I got back in the car and I am wondering if fueling / or my fueling procedure had something to do with this. Also on this year can you jump the diagnostic pins for the check engine light to "blink" on the dash on this year (I have tried with no luck)

Thanks,
gander10

Welcome to the forums!! If you could please put your cars info into your signature (model/engine/trans etc) it would help us all out immensely 1997 should be OBD2 so you cant jump any pins as far as I know, take it to autozone if you can, they will scan your car for free, just bring us the codes they give you. Since the light came on after you filled up have you checked your gas cap/gas cap seal? If its loose or leaking it will trip the light.

I'm having the same problem with my 97 Miata. I checked the gas cap seal and made sure the fuses are seated right. The oil pressure and every other dial on the dash is normal also.
I just put a new top on it today and really wanted to take it for a spin but didn't think it was a good idea until i figure out what the problem is.

You guys need to go to a parts store and have the codes scanned. '97 has OBDII.
