Trailer Harness Install

Trailer Harness Install
I just ordered a hitch and harness for our 2016 CX-5. The harness has a power feed that needs to run to the battery. My question is can I just tap the power from the power outlet in the cargo area in the back instead of running a wire the whole way to the battery? And if I do need to run to the battery the walk thrus that I have seen say to run the wire under the car from the back to the battery...thoughts on running in the cabin under the sill plates and the edge of the carpet, is there a grommet in the firewall that is easy to access that can be used to push through the firewall?
The hitch I got is the curt 13127 class 3, and the harness that I got is the curt 56310.
Thanks all!

You chose a powered harness that is the same as the OEM except the connection to the lights is plug and play on yours. Better then the OEM. The powered harness have the advantage that they protect your car wiring from any problem with the trailer. I don't see any problem with tapping the power plug, but if you want separate power you can download the OEM instructions here.

It shows how to tap a spare wire that runs from under the hood next to the battery to the cargo area. Also the instructions are handy to find out how to remove the panels you need to take out.
