Fuel economy rant here..

I average about 23.5 when I drive to work and back home five days a week. That is on a varied mix of 55 mph speeds and traffic lights.
In comparison to a Honda Accord I used to own... the Accord averaged between 21 and 29 mpg depending on how I drove, and it had a V6.

I've had my 2015 CX5 GT since march. Consistently getting between 27-30 mpg combined city/highway. Was higher during the summer, but now that it has cooled down, the MPG has gone down. Highway driving is at 65-75 mph.
Just remember to reset the av MPG calculator - simple to do by pressing the center of the info button (the "info" has to be on the av MPG display for it to clear). You can also sync the av. MPG to the trip odometer, so if you reset the trip odometer after you fill up, it will also reset the av MPG. This is done in the "applications" section of the home screen.

I had my oil change at 6k miles and now averaging about 23.5 mixed driving with an AWD Grand Touring. That seems to be where everything is settling in and that's ok. ( of course gas at $1.75 a gallon makes it all good). I was hoping for a bit more based on the "EPA estimates" as none of my driving is stop and go city but after renting a brand new Subaru Forester for a week the mileage was the same in mixed driving.. maybe a hair more on the Subaru. Its a nice rig that Forester but does not have near the fun factor as the CX-5 and the styling is well... you know. Also that CVT transmission would drive me nuts after awhile. Acceleration was pretty good but no shift points is just weird to me. I guess I better get over it if we all go electric..
All and all happy with the CX-5. It's solid. Looks great, handles great and other than a bit too much cabin noise on acceleration the car is great. I look forward to putting about 200k miles on it with little or no issues. That's the main reason I bought it

Interesting..
After I just posted the response to this thread that I started I saw a link to the Government Fuel economy site. Nowhere that I could see does it say at what speed the "highway mileage" was measured. It just says that combined is 55% city and 45% highway. OK.. Where? Minneapolis in the winter? Utah in the summer? Average from all areas and temps?
Ok so define 'highway"??. Are they measuring at 55mph? 65?.... 70? . Well we know the answer here. It's 55.. Because at that "crawl along" speed .. that is the only way my 2016 GT AWD is going to come close to 30MPH. And that is with a tail wind. That's a fact.
I'll stand my my original "thread starter"... Once again ... its. B*#*$ it........

I live in the suburbs of birmingham, al..i average 23mpg ever since i got my 2016 cx5gt in july this year..yeah i live by an Interstate that has a speed limit of 70mi/h and I get on there and go 15 miles to work on it only get no more than 24mpg max and when i drove interstate for over 400miles on a trip 26max...my 2003 mazda protege MPG: Up to 25 city, 31 highway and i always got round 28 to 30 mpg highway or city streets...why is this vehicle not meet expectations.
response from customer service was: "I would recommend checking out the website Fuel Economy for information on how the estimated miles per gallon is calculated. The trip computer may not be 100% accurate.
If your CX-5 is not performing as expected then we would like to have the dealership diagnose the vehicle for further review."
I have already taken the vehicle to the dealership and they ran text and came back saying nothing is wrong.....
what mpg is everyone else getting???

Dealership doesn't understand that some folks aren't stupid and can figure out mileage the old fashioned way "using math"
My 2007 Mazda6 2.3 auto got me 27 MPG average, the 2015 Cx5 2.5 auto gets me 19-21 MPG average... Something definitely wrong here and either the dealer or manufacturer needs to make it right. I otherwise love this vehicle, just ticked that the mileage is sooo far off of their claims and they treat you like a moron when you try to call them on it.
