CX-5 vs. Jeep Cherokee acceleration?
I have a '14 lease is due soon Jeep Cherokee latitude 6cyl. I was looking at the new Mazda CX-5 which I just realized just comes in 4 cyl. I was curious how the 4cyl compares as far as acceleration. Is it sluggish? Thanks

I haven't driven a Cherokee, but I can say my CX5 can't compare to my 3.6 liter Grand Cherokee. That would be comparing 187 hp to 300 hp and a six speed tranny to an eight speed one, though in a lighter vehicle. The CX5 is not a race car, but it's more than adequate for most purposes. It accelerates onto the expressway without problems and has good passing acceleration as long as your not trying to get past three or four vehicles with the 18 wheeler coming at you in the other lane. Go for the 2.5 liter, not the 2.0 and test drive one to see if it meets your needs.

I agree with schmieg's comments, the Cherokee's 3.6 liter mill coupled to the 8-speed ZF transmission will flat suck the doors off the CX-5; that said, the CX-5 has more than adequate acceleration from say zero to seventy.

- There is no such a thing as a V4 in the last 40 to 50 years in the automotive world; the Mazda and the base Chrokee have an I4 motor.
- The OP said his 2014 Cherokee had a V6; the only V6 made by Chrysler in that model year was in fact the 290 hp 3.6 liter Pentstar motor, so if it has a V6, that's the motor it has.

I think you know I mean 4 cylinder by that.
Really? They used the same V6. OK, did not know that.
I know all the reviews say to stay away from the V4... err ... 4 Cylinder... But I tell ya: I was impressed by it. Now, I still bought the Mazda but, it came down to these 2 vehicles for me. And then my mother in law bought the exact same Latitude I was checking out and I got to drive that for a week.
So I may not know that the same V6 was used in the Cherokee, but I do feel uniquely qualified to tell you my opinions of the 2017 Latitude versus the 2016.5 CX-5.
