That being said, I am having a heck of a time trying to find a rear passenger caliper for my model car; 2013 Mazda CX-5 Sport AWD. Does anyone have a good website, or am I going to have to go through the dealer? Thanks.

I work for a Mazda dealerships parts dept. List on a right rear caliper is $250.19. I could sell you one for $200.00 shipped. It helps some. Let me know if you still need it. We can set it up through eBay. Email me at rwarner@mileone.com . Thanks!

Curious if you've considered rebuilding the caliper? I've done this on three of my past motorcycles (never had the need on a car), and it's generally pretty easy to do. It's likely the piston got some muck behind the seal, causing it to seize. Not sure if they are available for Mazda calipers, but caliper rebuild kits are usually super cheap compared to a new caliper (usually around $20 to $30 bucks). Just a thought.

Default CX 5 rear brakes

Noticed my right rear disk had a 1/4 inch of rust on the outside on the top. Sure sign the calipers are sticking. Read somewhere that the slider pins were not lubed properly from the factory. At 38000 kms ,uneven wear is not normal. Took the brakes apart and sure enough the bottom slider pin was seizing up. This causes the caliper to freeze resulting in the pads wearing uneven from each side. Lubed with brake high temp grease and so far the disk is looking normal. Might be a dealer bulletin for premature brake wear. However decided to look myself instead of waiting at the dealer to get reamed.

I just dropped my 2016 at the dealer today for passenger rear dragging brake. Before taking it in I did some digging around the interweb to look for recalls/technical service bulletins and found a trail of Mazda attempts to fix what appears to be an engineering issue. As none of the other "fixes" appears to have eliminated the issue, Mazda is now diagnosing the issue to be faulty Electronic Parking Brake Module programming, with an associated cost of $500-600 for the nodule alone. I had hoped to find more "issue" info on this forum...so far no luck. I'm listing the TSBs I have found for others to reference.

1) Bulletin No.: 04-005/15, Issued 12/04/15, Squeaking / Grinding Noise From Rear Brakes

2) Bulletin No.: 04-005/16, Issued 8/05/16, Noise From Rear Brakes Due To Brake Drag (EPB Control Module Issue)

3) Bulletin No.: 04-004/-18-3468, Issued 4/27/18, Mazda Notice for Use of On-car Brake Lathe for Brake Noise, Brake Judder or Brake Dragging.

4) Bulletin No.: 04-002/19, Issued 1/10/19, Brake Noise, Judder and Dragging Diagnosis and Servicing ("Catch All" Brake TSB)

Sounds like Mazda should be covering this issue for free since they obviously did something wrong in the design phase.

I found further info on a latest TSB "R052/16C" which "replaces rear calipers, rotors, and pads with revised parts due to the rear brake dragging resulting in overheating, noise and the outer disc pad abnormally worn out". According to the write up, "Mazda now believes the culprit is the poorly designed calipers for the EPB, not the EPB control unit."

As I ponder the $2062 quote I received today from my local Mazda dealer for repair/replacement, I am feeling compelled to argue the case. And being retired and owning 3 cars (including the CX-5) with no car payments, I am in a comfortable position to do so...the question is, how tolerant am I to what could be a long, uphill battle.

I would love for you to fight it out, but understand it comes down to the question of: "is 200 bucks worth it?" Most certainly Mazda should be stepping up and issuing a recall if the parts are known to be defective. The mileage on the car shouldn't matter.

I'm not sure of the exact "cause", but after I balked at the initial $2062 quote stating that I had already checked parts prices online to try to get a sense of what I was in for, the Service Rep informed that she would "speak with the Service Manager to see if there is anything they could do to help". I received another call with a revised quote of $1470 +/- stating that the parts would be provided to me at list price ($870), plus another 10% off due a current service discount promotion. Now, I am not an ingrate and I always appreciate any savings that can be realized, however, I am also disappointed that they were initially willing to gouge me for what is by all appearances a well-known, albeit unacknowledged by Mazda, manufacturer's design flaw. So, I have ordered the parts from an online oem Mazda parts retailer (happy to provide a referral via PM once the parts have been received) for 25% less than my local dealership's "list price". Parts included:

Hose. Brake. GASKET. Qty: 2, pn: 995621000
Disc Brake Rotor, Qty: 2, pn: K01126251C
Parking Brake Actuator, Qty: 2, pn: KA0G268EXA
Parking Brake Actuator Seal Kit (Rear), Qty: 2, pn: KAY02644Z
Disc Brake Pad Set (Rear), Qty: 1, pn: KAY02648Z
Brake. Clip. Pad. Disc. (Rear), Qty: 1, pn: KAY02649Z
Disc Brake Caliper (Right), Qty: 1, pn: KAY02661XA
Disc Brake Caliper (Left), Qty: 1, pn: KAY02671XA

Anyone know a good source for factory service manuals?
