2014 CX-5 adding navigation
just picked up a 2014 cx-5 and was looking to add navigation. I have seen the videos and read about the install but need to buy a unit. Could I get one from a salvage yard or is the unit tied to the original vehicle's VIN?
Thanks for the help

You will need to buy the stereo unit, the GPS aerial/antenna, SD card reader, possibly wiring looms and a brand New SD card for the system.
I know once the SD card is fitted from new and the vehicle driven a short distance the SD is coded/locked to that unit/vehicle.

This is an image off the web, but looks just like the touch screen in the 2014 CX-5. It's got the nav button so it is ready made to just plug in the card reader. Found installation instruction in another thread. Looks easy as pie.

Bought Parrot Asetroid Smart
After spending close to 12 hours researching including trip to Best Buy, too much information is not always a good thing, I pulled the trigger on Parrot steroid Smart from Crutchfield Parrot ASTEROID Smart (does not play CDs) Digital media receiver with GPS navigation at Crutchfield.com
I like the idea the unit runs on Android, can be rooted, and my passenger will be able to use GPS while driving. Not the fastest unit around but this once was the closest to meet my needs.Total with all the required parts was 560 delivered. I did not order rear camera, I may get it at later time. What I need the most are bluetooth, on-board GPS and ability to play music from the phones. The Best Buy staff was not very knowledgeable about staff they sell, they had no idea if maps updates were included on Pioneer/Kenwood GPS receivers. Will be installing new head unit this weekend.
