Default air ducts on 92 929

My air just stopped working threw the ducts except defrost only. What caused this and how do I repair it? Also my heated stop blowing threw the ducts last winter. I think two separate problems cause air worked till today.

At least we know the blower works. Therefore i am thinking it is a problem with the climate control panel in the dashboard or a problem with the vent selector door and blend door inside the duct work. These doors are operated either with cables or electrically with actuators. The actuators can fail, the cables can work themselves loose at the ends.

On mine, I can't even see the blend door or cables. I was wondering, the heater didn't work last winter, It all functioned as far as going to floor, vent etc., but no heat. Now just the other day it only stays of defrost. Is any of this vacuum? There is one fuse in the drivers side under the hood at least I think its a fuse, that says air cond but I can't get it out and its not in the owners manual. Its a separate box from the factory, any idea's. And is there a way for me to check as far as the climate control being the problem. Thanks,
Chet

Chet: the haynes manual has some information on how to get to the control panel. Typically, you remove the radio, the bezel around the centerstack and then you can remove the climate control unit. That's when you see if it is operated electrically, by vacuum or cables.
You may need a special tool to remove the radio ($5.00 at the parts store).

If it is vacuum operated follow this advice regarding a Ford Escort ZX2:
Because the system is designed to default to defrost mode with a loss of vacuum, suppose we start there. Look for a hose inside the vehicle that may have come off or may be leaking. If you can't find any inside start checking the hoses that go to the inside of the vehicle from the engine compartment. There should be a vacuum reservoir in the engine compartment that gets it's vacuum from a "T" or hose from the manifold.
