How To Resurface a Flywheel
I need to replace the clutch, and I want a “new” clutch surface on my flywheel so the clutch will operate problem free.

The first step is to have the flywheel cleaned of oil , grease and grime.
This flywheel is in decent shape minimal warp and few hot spots

Next is to mount the flywheel to the machine
Move the flywheel under the grinding stone, and touch off….

Now that we have a good surface for the clutch disc to mate too…

One last thing to do is to knock in the pressure plate alignment pins

I used to club race (Road Rally and Auto-X) an old Volvo sedan. I switched from the stock and worn out B18B to a rebuild B20B +0.30 (5 angle valve job as described in that thread. Custom camshaft designed primarily for improved low end torque/excellent mid range power) w/an OD trans/shifter from a '67 1800S.
To reduce rotating mass and improve throttle response for very little money, I had the OE flywheel lightened by fly cutting the back side of it (learned about fly cutting through air-cooled VW's,) tapering up @ the clutch mounting points so as not to weaken them, as well as resurfacing the front. That took of nearly 6.5 lbs (+/-6.4 lbs. IIRC,) which still made it quite streetable and mileage was still pretty good, but noticably improved the throttle response as well.
I used the car in this way, as well as for my regular DD for another 80k miles w/o a problem.
