'91 Mazda 929 mad overheat
new to forum, woo! Got a '91 929, sweet sedan, good power, great engine! Problem: overheated on freeway, engine shut off, since then, I drive about a mile or half mile and she gets real hot real quick, radiator overflow tank pops open and steam abounds, from overflow tank and lower engine compartment. Head gasket? Water pump? freeze plug? no idea, total n00b. I've upgraded intake with a K&N cone, stock air tube, and replaced radiator, and a week before this incident, replaced lower radiator hose. it leaked a little for a few days before I realized it, so I tightened her up, and she's full now. Any help is greatly appreciated, Thanks a lot! Peace.

On most vehicles these days the engine sits higher than the radiator. If for any reason you loose your coolant and refill it you must remove air trapped in system.Thebest way to check to see if this is your problem, start engine and let it idle until temp guage is at normal operating temp turn on the heater. Is it blowing hot?If it is you could have another problem, althoughif the heater seems to blow hot drive the car and see does the heater start blowing cooler than it should. If it is the air will need to be removed from the system. There are a couple of ways to do this, you can purchase an air recovery system for about$140.00 or you can remove your heater hoses from heater core at fire wall behind engine, take a garden hose and run water through heater core until no air is present and reconnect heater hoses quickly. Now start your engine. Is the heater hot at operating temp.
