Hello Everyone!!

I''m new to the forum. Well, not really new, I searched and found super helpful information on here on how to change spark plugs and coil.  Saved a lot of money on that.

Background: I have a 99 Millenia S with 166K miles. Bought it in December 2007 with about 162K miles.

Problem Now:

Tuesday morning the car turned on for my husband and he moved out of the driveway. When I am leaving to work, it doesn''t want to start. It had power for windows, locks etc, but didn''t turn on. So my hub move the battery around and when I try on the 3rd time, it turned on, but barely. It seemed like it barely "caught" on and turned on. My hub said he heard an ugly noise.  I drove to work and turned off and on the car just to make sure it wasn''t going to die on me again. When I left work, I noticed the BRAKE light on. I didn''t have the manual brake on so I didn''t know what was wrong. I didn''t hear any noises, but I noticed the car wasn''t picking up really good.

When I get home, about a 3 mile ride from work, I hear a loud whining noise.  MY hub came outside right away and opened the hood. We saw a little bit of smoke and a wire burnt smell. He disconnected the battery and the noise stopped. He took out the starter and cleaned it, put it back on this morning and it doesn''t start. He says something is "stuck" somewhere. I''ve been searching on here and on Autozone website for info on what it can be. He thinks it''s a solenoid switch.  We can''t take the car anywhere now without towing it.

I''m sure someone here will know as there are such good experts willing to help.

1.  What is it? Or what can it be?
2.  Most importantly, can my hub do it himself?

Thank you so much in advance!!

Oh, I forgot to add, after we changed the coil and the car was up and running again like after I bought it, the CE light came on again. I took it to Autozone and got the P0140 which I was told could be one of 3 things, one of them an O2 sensor. Since I had read about that when I was researching on how to change the spark plugs/coils, I figured that is what it was. I also read on here that it could go on longer without changing them right away.  Could that have played a part in the problem now?

Thanks again, I hope to hear from someone soon.

Have u tryed checkin your alternator? As for the brake light, the only thing I can think of is checkin your brake fluid. If this site doesn''t help out much try mazdaworld.org or .net. Lot of millenia owners on there. Sure sumone on the may be able 2 help u out. Let me know if any of this helps. Good luck.
