I replaced the front and back struts with used ones and have the following issues:
  • The front of the car makes a dull thud sound when I hit bumps (sounds like something is loose)
  • When I hit bumps, both the front and back of the car slides / moves sideways

I think this probably means that I need to replace other suspension parts.

Please respond back with your comments.

Thanx,

it could be that the struts you replaced the old oned with are faulty or have just been weakened previously try getting a newer set and see if that makes a difference

The sound makes me think its one of two things: (1) the struts are dead like looney said or (2) it may be an endlink(s). The sliding you  mentioned could be from the struts but a car with broken endlinks or anti-roll bar will behave like that too. The endlinks on the 626 are pretty puny, I haven't been able to find much, but these look better than the stock ones. http://www.car-stuff.com/exclusives/mazda/626-sway_bar_link.html
The endlinks may not be the problem, but take a look. Hope this helped.
