I just bought a 93 929 with a V6 and am having starting problems. Here's the whole story; I bought it with a crack in the radiator, so I replaced with a new, meanwhile car is driving fine and starting fine, but within a few miles after replacing radiator car is overheating and I find that water is comming from the water pump. I was away from my home and car overheated pretty bad, for about a minute it got pretty hot, this is when I noticed the car wasn't starting up as quickly and as crisp as it was before. I figured I would replace the pump. After replacing it the cooling system is doing a fine job, but the car runs alittle crappy. It starts hard, I have to pump the gas and it will start very slowly and then run fine. Sometimes while driving it will sputter when I'm at a stop light, sometimes it's so bad it dies out. It's spiratic, but mostly the car drives good. does anyone have any suggestions for what I should inspect or replace, thanks. Mike

UNBELIEVABLE!! I have a '92 929 with the same exact problem. I haven't replaced the water pump yet but everything you said describes my problems exactly as I would explain it. Hopefully someone can help us. Babyhuey has helped me with other problems on this forum before.

check to make sure you didnt warb the head as far as i understand the 929 has a aluminum head which can warp under high heat ie your overheating

I also have a 1993 Mazda 929. Same thing happens with my idling! I have no problems with the car, but every once in awhile the idle will go very ow, and sometimes stall, like when I'm at a red light. Typically this happens after driving for a while and the car has heated up (not overheated, just heated to normal levels).

Again, when driving, it's fine, but when you stop, slow down, the idle fluctuates like it's going to stall. And, sometimes it does stall. Could it be battery wires? Or, something that is simply a fluke with these 929s? I know it really is the only issue I have with the car, and I'd sure like to get it fixed! I bought the car several months ago, and it has 193,000 miles on it, but it runs really great and I have no intention of it stopping anytime soon!

Hoping we can get a solution!

Thanks!
