I'm seriously considering buying a Mazda 3. Probably a Mazda 3 i, since gas mileage is important to me, although I haven't ruled out the S either. What kind of radio/audio system comes standard on the i ? What are the specs? I can't find anything on it except that it's an AM/FM/CD player, which tells me nothing.

I am not sure of all of the specs, but I know that it has 4 speakers, no tweeters or subwoofer. with the s, you can get a Bost sound system package, 222W of power with 7 speakers (2 tweeters, 4 mid-lows, and a subwoofer) with a digital amp and customizable equalizer. much better then the sound package in the i

The Mz3 HU was originally made by panasonic, however in 2006 they switched (I believe) to Clarion for the manufacturer. Here's the list of what trims come with what
3i- AM/FM/single CD, 4 speakers (mazdausa says there's a 6CD package, but doesn't list the 3i with the moonroof/6CD package)
3iT- AM/FM/single CD, 6 speakers, option package for moonroof/6CD
3s- AM/FM/single CD, 6 speakers, option package for moonroof/6CD
3sT- AM/FM/single CD, 6 speakers, option package for moonroof/6CD
3sGT- AM/FM/single CD, 6 speakers, option package for moonroof/6CD Bose Audio (222W 7 speakers)
Stereo accessories that can be purchased separately, and that will work with any trim model (must specify if the car has bose, or the Driver Info System):
-6CD/Mp3 (note the 6CD that comes with the moonroof package DOES NOT play Mp3's regardless of what the salesman told you to sell the car)
-Tape deck module (plugs into any HU)
-MD deck module (plugs into any HU)
Note: You can have either the tape deck,or the MD, but not both.
-Sirius satellite radio tuner

According to mazdausa's website the 3i doesn't come with tweeters. I wouldn't say they're mounted right next to your face.... they're in the triangular panel on the door inside of the side mirrors.

The 3i, base model does not come with tweeters, the only way you get tweeters is if you get the power windows and door locks.

i kind of wish the speakers in the mazda3 and mazda6 vehicles would face the passenger/driver area better like a pontiac grand am. the speaker in the driver door is faced almost directly upward at the driver giving them an awesome sound. mazda decided not to do that method. although the upgraded system doesn't sound bad, i'm an audophile to a point and i need some better sound.

i kind of wish i would have gotten the power windows so i could have gotten the tweeters, but i am happy with it for now, i might change the speakers in the future

I have a 3i and it has tweeters.. i alsop have pwr locks/windows and moonroof.. so anythings possible.. i guess..

nobody has mentioned the 3i t ve. Which is what the last post has. Has power locks, windows, and tweeters, with the 2.0l.
