Squeaking Brake Pedal?

Good morning,

I have an '04 Mazda6 Wagon, and I'm noticing the brake pedal to be very squeaky. I got down in the footwell and could tell that the squeak seemed to be coming from the "accordioned" rubber diaphram between the pedal lever and the firewall. I couldn't see anything that I could apply lithium grease to to make the squeak go away. Have any of you experienced this? Is there a known solution? Thanks,

David

I have same problem on '04 6S Sedan.  I have not tried to oil the rubber boot...I just turn up the audio.

I will check back to see if others have same prob and if anyone has a quick fix.

Probably has something to do with the brake booster or the linkage between the pedal and the booter.  At leas that's my guess.  I guess the radio helps too.

I lube the boot/grommet at the firewall about 2 times a year for this.  It is tempurature sensative - hot weather really gets it going. A little silicon spray goes a long way and won't attract too much dust and dirt like heavy lubes do.

i recently got the same problem.  i bought the 2007 mazda6 5-door 2weeks ago.  first it was creaking noise coming from the front passenger door, now squeaking brake pedal.  will the dealer be able to fix it if i take it in?  it should be covered on the warranty. (im bringing the pdf file posted by babyhuey)

Exact same thing happened to me with my 2003 6s. They replaced master cylinder and the booster at the dealer and the problem was gone. They replaced both the master cylinder and the brake booster, I don't know if both were the cause of the squeak together or just one of them was the cause and they replaced the other for some other reason. But at the end, problem never occured again.

To concur with wagonboy,

I was at the dealership today for unrelated service, and the Service Advisor said that in his experience, a power flush/bleed/replacement of the brake fluid has been the solution. He admitted that he doesn't know WHY that works, just that it does! I'm gonna give it a try, if for no other reason than because it's smart routine maintenance. I'll report back if it stops my brake pedal squeak or not. Cheers,

Seems to be a very popular topic, over 1000 have viewed the post.  I also have the brake pedal squeak, started ~ 20,000 miles, service advisor was clueless, said that my brakes were better that the car he drives!  Had the service tech check it out - couldn't find any problem either! Nice to know that something can be done.

I'm going to have the brake fluid power-flushed/bled on Monday 9/17...in the days following, I'll report back if my squeaky brake pedal has gone away or not. Lets hope so!

Having driven the car for over a week now, it seems that the brake fluid flush/refill/bleed has cured my squeaky brake pedal. Woo hoo!

Master cylinders have to be vented so they accumulate moisture through humidity, plus the rubber seals wear and debris from them build up. Eventually the seals do not get completely lubricated because the debris is blocking the fluid from getting to the seal. It still seals but the main cup seal gets dry and squeeks. Rubber on metal.
