Spoiler...or No Spoiler?

Does your 3 have a  spoiler or not? I've been considering getting one put on mine. I would buy it on ebay or something and install it myself.

However, does it look too High Schoolish? I am a recent college grad and I have a Full time job now. Will a spoiler make me look like that young punk kid that thinks he's cool, but he's not. I don't wanna look like a Fast and Furious band boy that wears a bandana. But I DO like how the spoiler looks.

To spoil or not to spoil, that is the question....

A factory type spoiler should look just fine.  As long as you aren't going the 42" double-wih-boned, carbon fibered look, I tyhink you'll be quite OK.
'Sides, it's your car!!  Do to it what suits you... right??

the wing spoiler makes the car look much better in my opinion. The thing about the 3 is it isnt a car you see all riced out. Kids typically go for the integra/civic/gti's from the early 90's that they can get thier hands on. Personally, i think if u dont get a spoiler u would be foolish

I have a Integra spoiler on my car its prob higher than 42" i get real good downforce at high speeds...no im joking i dont have a spoiler on my mazda. I personally dont like spolers on a lot of cars (dont like driving shopping carts)... on the 3 it gives it a bit of a sportier look though. I'd say get the stock spoiler or get the one that is like a lip.

how are the spoilers attached. would you have to drill through the trunk to secure it??

yep you have to dent them slightly before you start drilling so the drill machine doesnt slip accross the hole trunk....if you don't know what you are doing then your pretty much going to screw up the trunk real bad.....thats why i mentioned the lip instead since its stuck on with the 3m adhesive tape it wont require any drilling and you can take it off as if you took off badges off the car.

Glad I'm not the only one making that comparison. There's a guy who parks his riced-out Civic at the local Wal-Mart; it has a huge spoiler with scissors mounts, and about 20 fluorescent tubes under the car. Cracks me up every time he goes by with that PPPPHHHHBBBBBTTTTTTT sound out of the tailpipe.

Seriously, the M3 is an awesome handling car right off the transporter. I think it's a lot of fun to drive around incognito and snicker at all the guys who upset the balance and handling of their cars by tacking all the gingerbread on every surface. That said, the rear spoiler on a M3 looks very nice and doesn't hurt it a bit. If my car had one already installed, I wouldn't have a complaint.

My '99 Eclipse GS-T has a huge factory spoiler, but I love how the wing completes the look of the car, and that's what matters.  Ultimately, it comes down to what makes you happy and what makes you smile just a little bit more when you look at your 3.  You said you like how the spoiler looks so I think you should go for it!

Well said, SSP3!!  I agree.  Do it because you want to do it.

That does seem steep and was my reaction too, but there are alternatives.  One of the dealers that sponsor this forum (i.e. MedMazda, or MazdaPartsZone) can probably offer you a discount... usually around 10~15%.
And think of it this way, where else can you get the factory spoiler already painted in the correct color and w/a factory finish?  How much might it cost to have it done otherwise and what kind of a job would it be?
If you got the factory part it could be installed and ready to go in 1/2 hour vs.... a long search and wait for your friendly neighborhood body shop to get it done and dried.

Chris,
Here ya' go... 22% discount on either.  $273 for the lip, $312 for the wing.  And remember, that's prepainted and ready (READY) to install.

That's awesome!  Good enough to entice me to buy one if I was in the market for one.

As a former Parts Manager, and one that worked for a couple of dealers () I can tell you that that is likely to be the best your gonna do too.  Dealer Parts counters don't usually work on much mark up and it sucks!!
When I worked for Jeep, my mark up was usually less than 20%.  It was hard to entice new bodyshop business in when I could only offer them a 10-15% discount over regular retail... believe me!!

I realize this is an older post, after searching I found this and figured it was best to ask here.  My 08 currently has the wing spoiler and I would like to get that changed to the lip spoiler.  Since the wing is screwed on and the lip one is secured on with an adhesive, what kind of work would it be to make the change from wing to lip?

Clearly, a bunch of bodywork, or a trunk lid in your color from a wreck would be your only viable options.
Much easier going the other way, which is what most people want.
