About 350. But after they cleared the code, the CEL has not come back on. They are replacing the valve as a precaution

I just test drove one today.  The car is fast and handles well, but seems like it will be a good daily driver too.  The CR-V that I ended up with is choppy.  It shocks you more than it dampens.  The Bose sound system leaves much to be desired?  Where's the bass?

Two things to say here.  You're talking a bout a vehincle that is from honda, a company that produces good quality cars with good resale value, but lacks any inspiration or soul.  Also it's a smal SportUT...... so no comparison.   But as for the bose i have some good input on that.  Bose Blows.  Bose is like honda, they have a good name for themselves but produce lackluster products.  Bose is very clear for a stock stereo so not much can be complained about.  My Speed3 had the Bose and it's clear and I've gotten used to not having  10 speakers of tuned Polk goodness sourced from Pioneer heaven.  The fact is if you leave your stuff stock get the bose.  But for any audiophiles out there you realize that though clear. it lacks the ability to wow you from 18hz 24,000hz.  There have been a few bose systems to hit vehicles in the past that were good, think $50,000 ^ class , but still bose can't compete in the, " I HAVE to have my sound perfect" catagory.  The Speed3 is not one of the better Bose oem systems but it's competant and i'm not sure about hondas at all, it may be worse, it may be better.  That's my two-cents, feel free to comment back.

I've always said 'don't just let them feel the bass drum a half amile away, let them feel Steven Tyler's high notes peirce their very soul".

not being a music buff at all, what would be a good edition to the bose system in the speed three without spending a fortune. i looked into putting a 12 inch JL.

please ideas are welcome and needed

Great string guys, should definately be sticky.  I've been following the MS3 through Autoblog and other sites since last spring.  Finally got to drive a red sport over the holidays (and 3rd gear did blow my mind).  My silver GT should be in port in five days, and at the dealer mid-Jan.  I am very excited.

Already tried to talk the dealer under MSRP, but they wouldn't budge.  Seems reasonable though, I'm ok with 24.5k.  I'll keep an eye out for any CEL issues.  I have noticed in pics of driven MS3s, and in comments here, some pretty substantial black build-up on the exhaust.  Has anyone been able to confirm that this will dissapate once we're off winter fuel?

Finally, what are you guys paying for insurance, ballpark?  I got a quote from my current insurer and it seems a little high.

I am paying 265 on my Mazdaspeed 3, and a 06Mazda 5 GT. I still have the black sut on the pipe after driving, and I live in a warm climate.

I was quoted $1,779.10 every six months for the MS3 alone.  I do live in the 95 Mid-Atlantic corridor though.  Does the soot wipe off easily?

So you have to pay $3500 in insurance for 1 car??? that is crazy!!! how old are you?

Yes the soot wipes off easily its just something you will get used to doing. I live in the south that would explain why the prices for insurance are cheaper.

Man that is a HIGH premium. Yeah how old are you and do you have points?

30.  No points.  I live near Philly in Delaware.  Anyone else in the area get a quote?

alright, the only reason my quote changed from having a bottom of the line 3 to have the MS3 is because i added gap insurance(you learn about this the hard way when someone hits you and totals your car and then you need to pay $1500 out of pocket for something thats not your fault at all.) the MS3 is not boosting up insurance that much because it is really just being considered a four door hatchback, and not a pocket rocket. im at like $120 a month, at 26 years old in NJ. so go figure, and more importantly do your research online.

the exhaust pipe is such an issue, i forgot about it for a couple days, cleaned it today and drove to a meeting 7 miles away and back and it already looked like sh!t again.

i love the car more and more everyday.  around 350 miles on it, once i get to about 600, im going to let loose and let the car "show me what its got"

Well dogfish, hang on tight buddy.  If you have'nt swung it to 6k 6 times in a row yet you'r in for a BIG suprise.  Torque is RIGHT there when your comming off of 6.  Much more efficient than short shifts, you'll see if you race anyone.  And don't bother above 6, turbo does'nt want to keep up, and it does'nt need to just hit a gear and hold on.

SOOT.  Yea it sucks.  But my dealer here told me that it's in large part our fuel mixture and that i will definatly see a difference come spring.  As for easy cleaning, yea it wipes off easy enough but after 2200 miles it's obvious it'll need a bi-monthly if not monthly chrome polish job.

As for the insurance deal, yea man shop around, wow.  I'm 22, male, 2 points total from two seperate occasions, And I still pay only 600 every six months.  That's 20 dollars a year more than i insured my 2003 Protege5 for, and almost exactly what a regular 3 would be.  So we are so very lucky it's being filed into the same spot as the reg Mazda3.  phew.

Have I mention'd lately how much I love our cars!!!    As an update for you guys on my ride, I've decided solidly now that the Mazdaspeed Exhaust and Intake will be added when they are availible.  No more thinking about it lol.  And I'm gonna contact Main Street Speed Sound and Service Performance Center in Damascus, MD.  My buddy at work had them do alot of work on his prelude, and it's quality stuff.  THey have an in flor dyno and i wanna see what i'm getting to the wheels.  I am almost certain 263 is at the crank cause Speed 6's dyno runs are lower at the wheel than they are rated.  I'm curious about before and after numbers.

check out cobbs dynos, they are low 200s at the wheels, but its at high altitude which i guess makes a difference. good stuff, im right there with you on mazdaspeed accessories.

The company I work for has a deal with Travelers Insurance. I have a blanket policy for my home and autos. I have a 95 Explorer 4x4 (liability only), and my 07 Speed (comp, collision, 500. ded). My premium for BOTH is $66.00 per month. It helps that I am over 40 and have no points. The other good thing, is they do a payroll deduction, so I don't have to worry about the dreaded 6 month renewal.

That dyno shot with only tune is crazy.  It's a shame only that much is getting to the ground but I guess it's tha way with most everything.  I'm wondering now, do the test your car and use Xede pretty much to re-write the computers internals to make it more efficient?  That's a warranty whoops i'm sure.  I HAVE to know lol, cause thats nice.

There was a post in the Speed3 mod's thread that's new to the forum.  For the sake of muddying it up I'll respond here as i'm sure it'll be seen.  Weight distribution.... I understand it, and would love to abide by it.  But i don't have the mind for trying to shave weight ni certain areas.  RX-8 and MR2 are good examples of great weight distribution, due to the Mid engine and Rear drives.  And i'm incredibly picky and sensitive to my cars.  That being said, I can't tell that it's got such a 'gross weight distribution issue'.  And If a book tells you it's red but when you look at it it's green, Well, It's green.  Does'nt matter much what the weight distribution is if it performs at an exceptional level.  IMHO.

Thanks for all the feedback on the insurance issue, don't mean to highjack this thread.  I've only driven beaters up untill now (well, in about 2 weeks) this will be my first new car.  Perhaps the quote was so high because I was asking for more than is needed.  For example DogFishHead (great beer btw) mentioned "gap insurance".  What level of insurance do you guys recommend (more than collision right?)?

Kind of sucks about the soot, but sounds worth it in the end.  Can't wait to get mine.

The soot will slip your mind once you first get behind the wheel.
