So far, I haven't had any additional problems with the SEI. But, I haven't driven it much since the repair was made. I only have about 1,200 miles on the car. When spring/summer gets here, I intend to drive it quite a bit more.

Hey Zoom, Dictionary, Silver, and any other Carolina 'Speeders, anyone thinking of going to VIR for the Rolex cup race at the end of April?
There should be lots of teams there running Mazdas in the GT classes. Let me know - I don't know nor have I seen a single Speed3 since I got mine in early November.

Do you have a link with the details? I would appreciate it if you could post it.

sure. www.virclub.com. look on the calendar of events. there will also be links to the Grand American racing site. which you may want to check out for more details on the events that weekend at VIR as well as those at other tracks at other times.

This is one place you can find out about club racing too. I plan to wring my MS3 out on this track to see how it handles at 11/10ths!!

Do any of you have some pics of the hatch area empty, and with the seats folded down?

I'm looking into the practical aspects of this car (which is one reason I am leaning against the Mini Cooper which might hold my shaving kit and nothing more).

I love the idea of a stealth hatchback.  Like when some SUV is tailgating my ass, and then enter a twisting freeway onrap only to leave the SUV in the dust.

Just traded in my 02 civic si for a MS3 GT, sunlight silver.  Wow.  Forget all of the reviews that anoint this vehicle.  Forget all the numbers.  The only way you can truly appreciate this car is to drive it.  Wow.  I can't even believe I got approved on the loan.  I'm friggin' stoked.  I think I'm gonna go take lunch from work right now just so I can drive my MAZDASPEED3!

Just be careful...I got a ticket from the glorious turbo...

You can get a speeding ticket in any car, but if your car is attracting attention (ricer styling, red paint, spoilers), you can expect to get more tickets than someone who is speeding all the time in a Buick.  To a cop, the 3Speed will probably look to him like any other Mazda 3 econobox... which is a huge reason this car appeals to me so much!

The sport model does not come equipped with a car alarm, which is the only one available at my local dealer.  Any after market suggestions for a good alarm?

I dont think the GT model has a top notch security system either, it probably just has that shit if you open up the doors, no shock sensor or anything like that.

can anyone explain how the 'alarm' works on the GT.  One night it started sounded the horn i was out getting things fromt he car on a quick stop hom and i can't remember the situation with the key and such but the car was definatly off.  It confused me and since then i've kinda wondered.

What's up everyone. Mazdaspeed 3 sports Black mica stealth bomber reporting.

I'm new here, just joined a week ago. it took me that long to read all the post all the way from september. Seems like we have a growing community here. About the CEL, my lights came on too (around 300 mi.), but my friend tighened up the gas cap and it disappeared and hasnt come back since (now have 4200 mi.)
I have black soot on my pipes like everybody else. I heard squeaks from my brakes, but went away, only on cold temp/start. I'd miss 3rd gear on spirited driving (happened twice). I learned how to drive manual 1 1/2 mo. ago. Someone here with great MT experience missed 3rd gear too like i did, I thought it was just because I'm a new MT driver, but maybe that's the reason for me. '
No mods for me yet, there's nothing out there in the market, some dumb parts clerk from the dealer thought that mazdaspeed for regular 3 is the mazdaspeed accessories I want for my speed 3. I spanked an Si already, made a porche driver scratch his head and shredded the twisty mountain road up in west orange. This car is fun to drive. I dont mean to sound arrogant.
I dont think it's that bad with the snow, I just go up to 3rd gear as soon as I can to prevent wheel slippage in the snow (without revving high). The gas mileage is kind bad, kinda far below the posted mpg. But I can live with it. It's worth it.

I'm from north jersey, I saw one speed 3 on the road so far, a silver one. It's great to have a forum like this.

Bro, I would LOVE to be in Cali this weekend. But I am STUCK here in NC. Hey, it could be worse. I could be in NY, buried under 100+ inches of snow.

Check this out....  my car is finisfed already......  Weird.  He said it'd be a long process.  Makes me wonder.  Had some sort of intake manifold accuator replaced.  I think that's the one that mazda has the fic for.  And the intake manifold is squared away, not too sure what was done, but before it was'nt fully funtional.  They tell me they switched to synthetic trans-fluid, so i hope i can trust them to have actually done it.  For 134.00usd they had better have done it, So theres my first mod to the car, synthetic trans-gunk.  I won't get to drive it till tomorrow morning which yippie should be when we're measuring a foot of snow.  Supposed to go out with the tech to experience a few cold shifts.  Maybe i don't know how to drive.....we'll see.

Why are you paying for warranty work?

I was wondering the same thing

The switch to synthetic transmission fluid was my choice.  So it's not a warranty item.  It did'nt nee fluid, and they stated that the transmission was fine, in many more words.  My only hope is that this will help my cause.  I did'nt know it was going to be that much cash though, for a fluid, but i guess it must be flushed, i dunno what all happens.

The snow here in the northeast was a challenge for my speed3. I traveled close to 40 miles on valentine's day when we're hit with snow and sleet. I couldnt go more than 30 mph. What I do is turn off dsc first, get the car moving with 1st gear and quickly shift to 2nd then 3rd to minimize wheelspin. This car really needs snow tires in the winter, I' rather put up with 3 mo. of winter (and not everyday will have snow) than to have a caw with all wheels on all the time even when u dont need em.

of course I turn on the dsc when after I shift to 2nd gear. It makes the car drive straight with not much correction on my part. The ebd on this car is wonderful too. I slid when I applied the brakes to hard and the car slid straight. Didnt even turn it's tail.

So, what happens if you don't turn off the DSC when starting off on snow or ice?

My baby S3 will NEVER see snow or ice.
