Sleeper CosmicBlue FTW!!!!  Dude saturn skyline or speed3.  Some would argue that it's a had choice but as in my case and obviously yours i don't think theres a good reason to choose the Skyline over this, when given a choice.  Uless you gotta have the suntanned head!  Seriously good choice man.  There have been some hiccups and you can see what's been happening in the forum here.  But not one of us regrets it.  Cept maybe the cold wheelspin dude, but i'm not sure, i'm betting he'll post and fill us in lol!  Welcome to the family.  And i guess you mean CosmicBlueMica.  If so we're twins!!  W00T!  Anywho coolbeans and HI!

PS i mentioned the VIVrunners that threw the CEL that Mazda if mustering up a fix for right.  Well my CEL came back on so i think i'll be the first and so far only car in my imediate area it'll get used on.  Damn that infernal light!

Welcome to Mazda....I think you made an all around wise decision with your investment..... besides once you drive this car-and learn her- you will never be the same driver....Mazdaspeed3 drivers are a rare but distinguished group of drivers-raising the standards for future generations of 3s and their drivers alike. Always drive safely and responsibly. Drive Mazda

I feel like I am have landed on a new planet with a friendly but inscrutable population. I need to activate my "universal translator".

Thanks for the welcome. I am in need of some fun behind the wheel - I have been driving a pickup and a sport ute and working 7 days a week for so long I have forgotten that driving can be a pleasant diversion.

It is putting the thread to the top of the page and it won't fall down the page.

Yes. In general, on internet forums, important or frequently used threads are given this distinction.

Yea i figgured we'd be stuck to the top by now as well.  I mean they stickied a post listing the 3's specs, which we can view on hundreds of other sites and the new years on Mazdas site while playing around building them.  And a cheesey advertisment for a discounted exhaust.  I see the idea behind the specs, but, that's it.  Oh well  It'll stay on the front page anyway cause it gets used alot.

My check engine light is on again.  They bocked open the Variavle Intake Runners and it's still throwing a light.  I can assume that it's still the same reason for light.  But mazdas fix should be knocking on the deaklers doors soon so I waited this week to call tomorrow.  IT's starting to bother me really.  Kinda just wish I could have no problems with my brand new 2007 high quality and high performance vehicle.  (V,v)  They'd better hope it is'nt a purge valve again,  i'ma start throwing the Lemon thing around and have to get me a new one!  Mine is old you know.  I got almost 3k miles on it ^^.

Anyone know of any Mazda or Mazda3 clubs in the midatlantic area.  IO'm out of MD and would be interested in finding out.  I have a limited schedule as a commercial driver, but could be worth a check.

Note: I just posted the following on the Saturn Sky Red Line Forum where I have been a member ever since I ordered a Sky Red Line last September. After I mentioned my decision on the RL forum to cancel my Sky Red Line order and instead order a MS3 I received a few amusing forum comments: I was told that the MS3 was a good choice for "Mom" and I was also told that I would be seen in "the rear view mirror" by RL drivers. I was also accused of being a Mazda "Spy".

I am not an advocate of either vehicle, but the poor customer service at the Saturn dealer and the interminable wait for a Saturn Sky Red Line combined with my discovery of the MS3 pushed me over to the MS3. A variety of car magazine articles about both vehicles (especially the November "Automobile" articles about both cars) - and a visit to both Mazda and Saturn dealers and actually sitting in both the Mazda 3 (stock version) and a Saturn Sky (stock version) helped me decide.

Here is what I posted:

HA! HA!

I particularly enjoyed the comment about "Mom's Mazda".

No, I am not (at least to the best of my knowledge unless I was brainwashed when I visited the Mazda dealership), a "Mazda Corporate Spy".

I saw a Sky RL on the island yesterday - Dark Grey (with a Brunette Driving). Very sexy (you guess which).

Interestingly, I re-read the two articles about the Mazdaspeed 3 and the Sky Redline - both of which were in the November issue of "Automobile" magazine.

The two vehicles are amazingly close in stats and performance:

Engine
MS3: Turbo DOHC I-4
SRL: Turbo DOHC I-4

Output
MS3: 263 hp, 280 lb-ft
SRL: 260 hp, 260 lb-ft

Displacement
MS3: 2.3L/138 cu in
SRL: 2.0L/122 cu in

0-60
MS3: 5.9
SRL: 5.7

1/4 Mile
MS3: 14.3 @ 100 mph
SRL: 14.2 @ 99 mph

Cornering L/R
MS3: 0.92/0.89
SRL: 0.92/0.86

Braking 70-0 mph
MS3: 155 ft
SRL: 170 ft

Weight, dist. f/r
MS3: 3183 lb, 63/37%
SRL: 3090 lb, 53/47%

Both have Rack and Pinion Steering, 4-wheel (vented front) disc brakes and ABS.

The Mazda is Front Wheel Drive and the Saturn is Rear Wheel Drive and, as such have different suspensions. Both have 18 inch wheels (the SRL has wider tires).

Since I have driven neither I have no opinion about either car's actual feel.

Seems like instead of a Saturn RL Driver seeing the Mazda Speed 3 "in the Rear View Mirror", both drivers will be probably be seeing each other out their side windows!

Dealer called and said the Mazda is "on the boat" ?!

I didnt even get a call back from Saturn when I called to tell them I was cancelling my order!

i didnt know that SRL were rwd....
and i'd still buy a MS3, becuase it looks more like a sleeper.
also, i'd still never buy a saturn.  mostly cuz the older ones have a styrofoam like engine block.
i'd rather buy a pontiac Solstice over a RL.  even tho they're probably almost identical....
just my two cents...

Even though the performance numbers are similar, they are really 2 completely types of cars. How you intend to use the vehicle should be more of a determining factor than anything else. If I wanted a 2 seat roadster, I would have kept my Corvette.

Zoomzoom: applause and well said.....

and even better stated: "It's a Saturn" That just sums it up right there.....ehhh....it's GM, the best thing that could have happen to them is to be bought out by nissan so maybe then they can be closer to being an import.... please go join the neons on the back of the towe truck......

I think it's interesting to study the acceleration stats a bit.  The roadster has 0-60 that is .2 sec faster than the MS3 -- you know why -- it's the poor launch of FWD.   But the MS3 crosses the 1/4 mile line a little faster (maybe not statistically faster, though), so you might safely draw this conclusion:    Unless you are drag racing the Saturn, it's very unlikey he'll see you in his rear view.  More likely the other way around.

I would not mind being how one of them finds that out the hard way.  ...with a week's groceries in the back.

Well I went and did it. I got myself a Black Mica MS3 yestarday and I love everything about it. All but the terrible winter drivability I slid right past my driveway when I brought it home. This was with just a dusting of snow less than an inch deep. This I know is directly related to the summer rubber on these cars. I had a question on what size steel wheels I can throw on this thing I know with the larger rotors space is an issue. Tire Rack advertised a 16" tire 205/60-16 will a 16 fit on this car or is there inside clearance issues?

A 205 would definetly get more pressure on the contact patch and be some cheap winter rubber. $57 for the cheapest grippers I saw for snow tires in that size. But will they fit??

17's work fine in a 205/50R17.  I run that on my wifes Mazda6 and they are awesome.  I believe you can fit a 16" wheel, but you get REAL tight between the caliper and rim so if any ice built up in there you could run into issues.  I'd stick with 17's.

After chasing a Shelby GT, Jetta TDI and Honda SI, I finally settled on the Mazda Speed3 and I'm glad I did, definitely a Rocket with great suspension and steering. I bet if Mazda makes them again in 08 they'll be 3000 to 5000 more in price. I paid $23085 before TTL and was OTD for 25500. They didn't argue over MSRP at all, but they sure weren't going under it. I got the Black Mica sport, no options to speak of and I'm just outside of Phoenix Arizona. I was looking on Mazda's web site and all the Speed3 optional equipment is for the 2004 to 2006 model years, has anyone heard when the CAI and CBE will be out for the 07's? I really love driving this car, takes me back to the muscle car days of the late 60's early 70's. I use to have a 64 Malibu SS 350hp 327ci with a 2.20 low Muncie 4 speed and 3.73 posi rear, and it would fly, but I bet this Speed3 would keep up with it for awhile. Anyway, nice to meet all of you other smart buyers, isn't is nice to know at least some of us still know a good thing when we see it?

Welcome to the family Road and Dolph!!  Sweet ride eh?!?!  To the futrue of Mazda sourced bolt ons, the parts guys at my local dealer looked at me funny.  Should be soon i would think.  I heard a RUMOR about 'next month', two weeks ago.......  CP-E now has they're BOV and CAI availible to ship!!  Check those guys out they are legit.  On the steel rims issue i'm with you.  I want to know the same thing.  A size.  Not a range,  But being Feb and we don't get to much snow here I may just go with the new summer rims (wider and lighter) and Winters on the stock.  Meh.

Anywho, Welcome!  Throw your questions here as well as ideas.  I love to see new posts!!

I have a question. If I would make a website that is stricktly for the MS3 how many would be interested? It would have forums seperate catagories for engine chassis boilt on performance and what not. A review section where you can write a simple review on performance add-ons and what not. I have a few ideas right now but am thinking that a car of this caliber really needs a place of its own not just a thread on a forum.
