Yeah. They just replace the purge valve. No big deal. Still a hassle though.

RuhRoh. Here we go agin with the CEL. I'm running around 2500miles now and can feel no problems at all. CEL came on after about a five minute idle from literally frozen, and having babied it onto the interstate. My fear of the turbo (being my first, and on a car i don't want to lose) convinces me i have'nt made any pilot errors. I'll take it in monday morning and they'll surely have an idea by that evening. I'm betting it's the PurgeValve again. With so many going bad it's almost recall worthy. But if it goes bad and they draw the replacment from the same pool of parts.... could'nt they be getting in new but malfunctioning parts for us. That's just a thought. But yep I'll post back hope you guys and gals can avoid a second run in with the YellowMeanie.

The CEL can be any one of a 100 things. I don't know of anyone on here that has had the purge valve replaced twice, but that doesn't mean it can't happen.

Hey Hey, I noticed today on the way home that I could hear the turbo spooling up under normal conditions. THis is odd because before i could'nt pick it out at all. This in conjunction with the 2nd CEL is above my turbo knowlege without having the CEL codes to go by. Any thoughts on a more audible turbo?

Are most people finding that the CEL comes on before 1000 miles or after? I don't like beating on cars, especially turbos, and even more so the MS3. I always let my cars run a few mins before I drive and even now that I am "broken in" I don't run her hard till about 15min of driving or longer if it's colder out. (I'd like an oil temp gauge.) I also let her wind down before I turn her off.

Going in monday morning. They told me over the phone after a hesitation in speech that the turbo sound could have something to do with the CEL. Made me feel weird. I am starting to fear having gotten the bad one. Having never gotten over 21.9 mpg and other things i feel like my bad luck has stuck again. Only time will tell though.
As for the Check engine light yea i've seen mostly pre 1k i believe. Mine was 800ish. PurgeValve.

Mine happened at about 350 miles. I now have about 800 miles, so it is too early to know if it will happen again. There is another guy here in town that has one. He has over 3k miles, and never had the CEL come on.

CEL is gone. Weird. I don't think anything can be done unless it's throwing a code or exhibiting other problems.

I got the CEL for the purge valve ( code P0441 ) at 1150 miles. I'm waiting for a convenient time to take it in. Maybe this week. My avg mpg is 22.9.

Just remember that we all took the risk of buying the 1st off productions for this car so we are going to get a few hiccups here and there. That is why I got the extended warranty, and you never know. If you have a lot of problems there is always the Lemon Law.
I am at around 900 miles now and so far so good!
Maybe they would upgrade to the MS6 for free heheh.

Upgrade? I remember taking the MS6 for a test drive last summer and was very disappointed with how it preformed.

A lot of S6 owners wish they had waited for the S3.

I agree, I bought it for keeps. Besides they fed me lunch when i bought it...... lol. If all else fails, and it's just not for you, once the dealers stop getting them new provided you have'nt Quad Turbo charged it or wrapped it around a few light poles here and there, you ought to be able to get a decent return on it. Hell, maybe even profit depending on what deal you go and how much Ebay loves you. lo. Not mine though. Mext car dealing will be for a daily driver, mazda, think dirt cheap, and I'll retire the MS3 to a life of assisted living and sunsets on the town.........

I don't plan on getting rid of my car anytime soon. I am keeping it for at least 6 years or wait til I drive it into the ground.
I love this car too much to part with it!

My 10 year old son is hoping I will be tired of my MS3 in 6 years - I think he'll get the old truck instead

Very nice Silver. Just don't let him see that post, it'll wreck his lil heart.
Good new and bad new this post. Good news is I'm loving my car and the anticipation of a CAI. Bad news is I won't get to play in it this weekend, as the CEL is back and I'm turning it over to the authorities this morning. Tis a shame. I'll post back with an update as i get it as most of us are having similar issues and are in it together. The 5Klub. On another note i am searching for a reliable size steel rim to fit with Winter tires for the speed3. Anyone know of the size and really in the maryland area who would sell them. THese online site look like scams and non have the car listed. Thanx

does maryland even have that long of a winter? what is it like 1 month long, you should just get some decent all weather or winter tread and get some rims for the summer

That's a good point Bill. But having two sets would make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside ^^
Getting my car back tomorrow morning. For all to know, you all pretty much have and issue. Almost all. Mine threw the light and it was the Variable Intake Runner's or so i remember, If i am saying that term wrong please correct me. MAZDA is aware of the problem and will have the fix for it finished within two weeks, so says my dealer. Apparently they adjusted mine. 'open' 2mm. I do believe open and i'm hoping that that means more air flow. He said it meant that but not a whole lot. I asked about performance differences and he was'nt clear on it but said that if you ran auto cross you might notice, and that you'd have to run the piss outa it to tell. Well, DUH! lol but i did'nt wanna give him that impression. Hey, its broken in and skill beats tenderness always. Any who way, just about all of them are supposed to be at risk of fault but all you'll be able to tell is a damned yellow light shining at you. Just a heads up but your dealers should already be aware.
When asked if it was going to be a recall issue he said at this point all they wanna do is have the fix ready and administer as needed. hohum At least i get to play this weekend!!

If you dump to atmosphere of course that air is'nt being reused and essentially the spooling starts from scratch, sorta. Recirculating lets that blown off air had back to the turbo and so keeps the spool time down. Anyone else explain it better, and i am sure you can, please do so. It's a small difference if you really have no interest in speed, but since your modifying it i assume you do. Then running in recirc mode is only benifiting in one way. The stock valve is plastic. Need i say more. And after time or under more boosting that plastic valve can leak your precious compressed air. Obviously not cool, but should'nt be a prob for any of us right now. atmosphere to my knowledge is just to sound cool. and currently there are'nt any BOV kits for the speed3 that can be run atmosphere without throwing CEL's all over the place. THat's why most of them are comming equipped for both modes untill a computer mod can be completed. Enter
www.CP-E.com. So yea your right but it's about the same amount of difference as the leaking a smidge of your boost would be. Critical to some of us and dynos, but for other's, who gives. ^^
And if you wanna let out the awesome turbo sounds just get a CAI. Pop your air box once inb a controlled and decently clean enviroment and rev it up, you hear it dumping back in and the spool up is spin tinglingly awesome. ^^
