Resistance with Gas Pedal and Slow Acceleration

While I was driving, all of a sudden when I pressed my foot on the gas I felt resistance on the pedal... It feels as if there was someting wedged behind the back of the pedal not allowing me to press the gas..
Along with the the acceleration of car is very slow and gets me up to about 120km/hour at most.

Any once had his experience or know what it could be?

the pedal could hang up on the carpet, or there could be something interfering with the throttle linkage...
