I'm thinking of getting a remote starter for my mazda5 but i have some questions. When the car is started with it can the car be broken into an driven off, or does the key have to be in the ingition to drive? Once the car has been started will it shut off when your key is inserted into the ingition and turned to the on position? Will it void the warranty of the vehicle if it is sold and installed at a mazda dealership? Thanks in advance for any help.

Hey AWM506, I went through the same thing when I was looking around for a remote start.

To answer your questions, if you connect the remote start up correctly, there is a wire that runs to the brake pedal electrical wire which turns the rear lights on so people know you are braking. With the remote start running the car, if the remote start senses any voltage on this wire, it will turn the car off. So you can't put the car in gear since you cant push the brake, unless you push the button near the gear shifter to put it in gear, but then they person that stole the car would not get far because when they brake, the car will shut off.

Once the car is started and you are in the car, you turn the key to the On position, this shuts off the remote start, but since the car is already running and the key is set in the on position, the car will not turn off and you can drive away. Some remote starts have a cool Pit Stop feature where you can push a button before leaving the car, take the key out run into the conviences store grab some drinks come back out put the key into the igition and turn to the on position without having to ever turn off your car. Awesome for a hot day cuz you can leave the AC running!

If you have the remote start installed at the Mazda dealership it will not void the warranty as it is their work that they have done to the car. The remote start becomes a part of the warranty.

Any other questions, please ask!

I got my remote starter installed and I love it. If you get one installed bring both sets of keys so you dont have to make another trip to the dealer to get your key programmed, found that out the hard way.

i cant wait to get my next month. i bet its really fun to be walking to your car and to have it start without you being near...definetly a neat thing to have. sadly for my mazda 3, i have a security system, standard on the SP23, so the remote starter wont work with my car because they can't disable the alarm system which sucks! so i am going to have to go with an aftermarket system and either install it myself or have a professional install it.
