Since I got such great help on my lock question, I guess I should also ask another question which has been troubling me.

I tried using the defroster last night, but it doesnt work. I press the button and it doesnt defog the rear window.

I checked the fusebox last night, and found "Defogger" but I switched the 20A fuse with the 20A fuse from the wipers, and the wipers worked, and the rear defrost still didnt work.

Does anyone know if this is a common issue? or have any suggestions how to address fixing it?

Thanks
-Tyler

Did the defrost light in the instrument cluster come on? Also does the switch light up when you turn on the headlights?

The defrost light on the dash doesn't come on, and yes, the defrost logo on the button lights up when the headlights are on.

Since the logo lights up then at least you know it is plugged in. 20A fuse is ok so that pretty much leaves a bad switch.

Good news. So I took the switch apart, and reseated all of the metal pieces (I accidentally broke the bulb inside :P) but I hooked it back up again, and after pressing a few times, the switch works now!

It doesn't light up with the headlights anymore, since I broke the bulb, but I would prefer to have a working defroster than one that lights up, so it's all good! Maybe Ill replace it someday, but the light on the dash turns on, so im happy!

Good job on fixing the existing switch.

Bulb is available as a separate part which is a little unusual as most mazda switches do not. OE part #
BC1M-66-461 with retail of $3.70. Better hurry if you want it because only shows 5 left in the 3 US warehouses. There is also a Ford service part number that may be a little less. F3Z2 13466 R.
Replacement switch part number too just incase it croaks on you again is BC1M-66-460A. Is only $33.26 at onlinemazdaparts.
