Hello. I recently bought a 2003 Mazda6 I, 5spd with 48K on it. I truly enjoy driving this car. My only beef is when I am doing 60mph or greater, I get this annoying rattle sound coming from underneath the vehicle. It might be described as a vibrating mettallic sound. It only happens when I''m cruising on the highway at speed. I have not noticed it ever when driving around town (under 60mph).
Would anyone out there know what this might be coming from and how to correct it?

Could be lots of things...but metallic? It sounds like it could be a bent rim to me.

I hope it''s not a bent rim...It comes and it goes when above 60it''s not a constant rattle..I was hoping it might be some sort of heat shield that''s rattling when the wind at that speed is hitting it..

I don''t know about the heat shield...my Corolla did that, but it was constant. Hopefully Teachey will be able to chime in more, as he is a 6 owner. Virgin1 may know more as well.

Thanks, VB. I''ll await their replies. Hopefully, it''s nothing $$fatal.

I say it is a loose heat shield or part of the exhaust system touching something at high speed (more vibration). Jack it up and check around. Good Luck.

Thanks. I will crawl under and tug around on the exhaust to see if I see anything.
