New owner, power sliding doors

Hi Folks.  I just bought a 2006 MPV(YES!) with power sliding doors.  They act a little different than what the manual says:
 
1)The manual says I can pull the outside handle to open OR CLOSE the doors.  It opens a closed door fine, but it doesn't trigger an open door to close.  Have to use the inside switch.  Is that normal?
 
2)If I activate the power locks while the sliding doors are open, they don't lock.  They lock properly when closed.  Is that normal?
