Do mods like a remote start or cold air intake void the warranty?

a remote start will not void your warranty at all, same goes for the cold air intake, unless the problem that occurs with your vehicle is due to that aftermarket part that you have slapped into your vehicle. now if you were to add headers, turbo, suspension, that would void certain areas of your warranty almost instantly.

do you know anything about remote starts, especially models that will work with the mazda 3?

it should work. My car has a remote start system and its an 87. I didn't install it but the keychain says "Python" it could be an early version of Venom. Python isn't even listed on the manufacturer's list for Cardomain mods. I don't know if they make it anymore but a remote start system is pretty universal. It splices into your ignition wiring and the remote switches the curcut from normal to a different starter relay then to the wires connected to where the ignition says "on" it deactivates when you put it gear or press the brake. It also cant start inless it is in neutral.

here's a link vehicle specific to your mazda3... just choose the year of your model.

this option gets pretty pricey though, think it was around $300 or so. might be better off to get a viper system or venom system. they all work, it's just a matter of how to splice into your wiring of your vehicle.
