Mazda 6 adding horsepower

I have a blue 06' Mazda 6 2.3  4-banger. I would like to add some horsepower, but I have no experience with engines. I am planning on installing a short ram intake (still shopping around) and some lighter wheels. Any other suggestions to get a bit more speed or acceleration without any major work?
