help my 97 Protege keeps stalling  ive cleaned the egr replaced the maf senser the idle is good but the moment i put it in gear it flutters and dies im going nutts please help

you should check to see if it has jumped timing.

well i might think that if it hadent been running fine the night before. does any one know how to test a tps or a map senser

Auto trans?? Does the engine seem to idle fine while still in Park or Neutral? Does it also stall out if put into reverse or only into forward grears? If you answer Yes, Yes, and No then check the black rubber air intake boot between the air cleaner housing and throttle body for tears. A tear in this boot can be closed in Park but only open when you put trans in Drive and engine rotates a little and opens up the tear allowing unmetered air into the engine.

well i thought i had that one coverd but i will double check thanks any more idears will helpi did run some injector cleaner though and it seems as if it helped as for forwerd and revers it stalls out in both

when the map sensor goes, it causes the motor to idle funny on and off, but the car usually stays running and drives fine. the idle will be high, then low over and over. you could pull the plug to the map sensor and see if it runs any different. if it does, the map should be alright, but if it runs the same on and off, it is bad. the map would throw a code though. i wouldn't rule out jumped timing though. when was the last time the timing belt got changed?

well i checked the airfilter back to the engine no brakes or cracks so now im still stumped it idals fine in rev and driv but when i give it a little gas it stalls out
