Cannot reproduce uncapped gas tank early a.m fill up, Check Engine light 10 days later

 

Can't say this has ever happened to me. The cap has fallen out of the holder on the back of door once while I was fueling up, but the door stayed open. 40k of ownership across two CX-5's so far.

 

Never had this issue.
But perhaps I'm not understanding you; are you saying the fuel door is now jammed?
Otherwise, you can just open it and put the cap on.

 

Not jammed just looks like I finished refueling complete with door closed & uncapped tank behind it. In my case returning the pump nozzle dislodged the retained cap & cap assembly closed the door. It's almost mechanical watching the cap fall and pull fuel door closed as it disappears I called it slight of hand

Interesting read. Never read this happening on any of the Mazda forums before.
I guess I have learned something today.
But I will check up on the information.


How often we see vehicle's that owners for some reason get distracted and leave their fuel door open or drive off and leave their gas cap.
Who is in that much hurry fueling? It's not like pit stopping for fuel in the Indie500 or NASCAR where seconds can cost you lap times?
